Residency in Psychotherapy

The Residency in Psychotherapy provides recent graduates opportunities to develop clinical skills under concentrated supervision at a nationally accredited Samaritan Counseling Center.

Applicants for Residency positions are reviewed semi-annually.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in social work, marriage/family therapy, or clinical/counseling psychology
• Two recommendations from supervisors, professors or professional colleagues

Training Site

Clinical supervision and training is based at Samaritan Counseling Center in Scotia, New York. Clinical work is also assigned at other Samaritan sites in the Capital Region.

Program Features

• One-year program, with an option for a second year
• Accumulate 1,000-2,000 clinical hours of practice and up to 375 hours of clinical supervision using videotape and live supervision
• Carry a case load (individuals, couples and families) of 15 sessions/week.
• Supervision may be applied toward LCSW status, LMFT licensure, LMHC licensure, or AAMFT certification
• Individual and group supervision, plus integrative seminars
• Special emphasis on clinical
  application of self-psychology and systems theoretical frameworks with specific focus on integration of spiritual issues
• Limited compensation available
