Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital Region

Michael G. Quinn , LCSW-R

Clinical Specialties: depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorders and trauma, hypnosis as an adjunct to treatment . . .

Michael Quinn joined Samaritan Counseling Center in early 1987 and quickly became its clinical director. He recently left that position to become coordinator of clinical personnel issues. In this capacity he coordinates staff clinical supervision, reviews clinical goals and ensures that specific standards of practice are being met. He is also the center's site director at the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park.

Michael came to Samaritan from the Counseling and Human Development Center based at Trinity Church in Manhattan where, for 12 years, he was a senior staff psychotherapist.

He is a graduate of Rutgers University with a B.A. in history. He holds a two-year, full-time certificate in Clinical Counseling from the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health and has a master's degree in social work from the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. He has studied family and divorce mediation at the center for Family and Divorce Mediation in Manhattan.

Michael is a certified social worker by the State of New York, a diplomat in clinical social work by the National Association of Social Workers, and a board certified diplomat in clinical social work by the American Board of Examiners. He is a past member of the Association of Family Mediators. He is on the panels of most of the region's HMOs and MCOs, which allows him to practice psychotherapy with their members.

Michael is interested in the integration of psychotherapy and spirituality and uses an individual's own faith perspective in the course of treatment. He practices general psychotherapy and pastoral counseling with a focus on depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorders and trauma. He has been trained in hypnosis and uses this as an adjunct to treatment. He treats individuals, couples and families.
