Samaritan Counseling Center of the Capital Region

Andrew Chestnut , LMSW

Andy, a Schenectady native, received his B.S. in Humanities and Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his MBA from Columbia Business School.  He spent many years in corporate life with General Electric, Sanofi (now Sanofi Aventis) and Baccarat.  He specialized in change management, especially how to align goals, culture, values, organization, reporting and measurements with strategy.

He left the corporate world to return to Schenectady and “get his life back,” resolving to devote the balance of his professional life to helping people.  He received his MSW from UAlbany, after year-long internships at the Capital District Psychiatric Center and Northeast Parent and Child Society’s Schenectady Child Guidance Clinic.

His clinical specialties include adolescents and their families, couples and individuals – with particular attention to the impact of work/life issues on critical relationships, informed by his perspective as a recovering corporate executive.  At Samaritan, he is part of the Couples Clinic Team and the Clergy Team. In addition to being licensed by New York State as a Master Social Worker, he is certified as a hypnotherapist by the National Guild of Hypnotists, and as a management accountant by the Institute of Management Accounting.

Andy is fluent French speaker, a professional musician, and the father of two grown children.  He lives with his wife of 25 years in Schenectady.
